Tamulpur, Oct 30: Over 2,000 students from schools and colleges across Tamulpur participated in a four-day youth festival that concluded successfully on Friday, with BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary announcing plans to organise the event on a larger scale next year.
“Today is the last day of the Youth Festival in Tamulpur. Students across schools and colleges have come to attend and participate in the festival, with an estimated participation of over 2,000 students. We have been encouraged by the celebration of the youth festival and, next year, we will plan it on a much larger scale,” Mohilary said.
He added that parents had also accompanied their children to attend the programme at Pathalikuchi Mini Stadium in Dwarkuchi, which featured events spanning sports, culture, education and other fields.
Literary, sports and cultural competitions were held throughout the four days to promote the intellectual and physical development of students and youth. The cultural stage also hosted musical performances by local and invited artists every evening.
The concluding day featured a public meeting showcasing the traditional customs and cultural heritage of various communities. Youth BPF central president Rinjay Boro, BTC Executive Members Ganesh Kachari and Maheswar Basumatary, party secretary Raju Boro and BSU leaders attended the closing ceremony.
Addressing the gathering, Rinjay Boro encouraged young people to pursue opportunities in sports, dance, music, technical education and higher studies.
Mohilary, meanwhile, interacted with students and assured them of government assistance and benefits in the future. Describing students as the future of Bodoland, he urged them to contribute to the development of society.
Students who secured positions in various competitions were presented with awards and certificates during the programme.
On the delay in the recruitment of BTC teachers, Mohilary said financial approval from Dispur was awaited.
“There is a need for financial approval from Dispur, and it is being delayed a little. It will take place; that is finalised,” he said.
The festival was organised by the Youth BPF, the youth wing of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), across the 10 organisational districts of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) region.
It aimed to promote peace, harmony, development and unity among different communities while providing a platform for young people to nurture their talents in literature, culture and sports.
